The new mini is still expensive and isn’t as versatile as Ekrin Bantam, which we still believe is the best mini around. The Theragun claims to offer a range of benefits from faster warmup and recovery – to improving your posture, range of motion, sleep and stretching ability. These are all features that can be achieved through other means – by stretching well after your workout, getting a sports massage or using a foam roller, for instance – so it isn’t by any means an essential piece of equipment. After testing this new device, we can say that it’s somewhat worth its weight in gold, despite a few caveats. In our opinion, after extensively testing both, it provides better value for money than its predecessor.

It may be the size of a small water bottle, but it’s brimming with impressive features. You get five interchangeable heads (most mini massagers come with just one or two) and there are five speed settings to flit between, giving you a whopping 25 massage combos to try. If you need some guidance, there’s a handy user manual, which provides step-by-step routines for warm-up, mobility and recovery. According to our tester, these were genuinely useful.The Thumb Head: This one is the only firm head in the set. However, it has a somewhat similar shape to the other two. It’s also the smallest. The battery is decent on the Mini, with a two and a half hour life. I only needed to charge it once, and it lasted for an entire week’s worth of testing. Charging time was also decent — it took a little under an hour to power the Mini from a low charge to a full one. If your Mini is completely dead, expect a charge time of an hour and twenty minutes.

Thanks to the three speed settings and the high-amplitude percussions, using the Theragun mini will feel powerful enough for people who are not used to sports- or deep-tissue massage. However, for athletes, the mini might not be powerful enough to relax muscles after rigorous workouts effectively. For them, I recommend the Theragun Elite instead. The faster percussions make it much harder to stall than mini 2. Ekrin Bantam is tiny but mighty. We simply love it. So does the new Theragun mini have enough juice? Yes, under normal usage, the battery should last you a few days. Is this the best battery performance among mini massage guns? No, it’s not. We believe Ekrin Bantam can give you twice the performance provided here.

The device itself is relatively light (it weighs less than 1kg), which also helps and, since it’s rechargeable, you don’t need to mess about with cables. Battery life is around two hours, which is more than enough juice for several sessions. We like what we see. Everything feels premium, as expected. The build quality is still top-notch, and it’s even better now that it’s not oversized. We’ll discuss more in ergonomics.
