To kick off this series of older/younger lesbian encounters, auteur Nica Noelle took a different route than usual: there are no beauties in the cast (perhaps Aubrey Addams is an eye candy exception) and only Elexis Monroe is superstar in the making. She also seemed a bit nervous, which was definitely something of a rare gem in the array of Isabelle Parrier's facial expressions. I didn't see any of the 5 sequels listed in IMDb at all and there was a 3-year hiatus until Dana Vespoli took over directing the second one, featuring a big name cast: Maggie, Julia Ann, Nina Hartley, etc. However, let’s back up a second because there’s actually a really important and moving story being told here about the real 19th-century paleontologist Mary Anning (Winslet) and her longtime friend Charlotte Murchison (Ronan).
Admittedly, lesbian cinema has left a lot to be desired over the years, with many movies resorting to cheap tropes and what can only be described as softcore porn rather than focusing on real, relatable same-sex relationships between women around the world. Directed by the Wachowskis, it follows lesbian ex-con Corky (Gershon) who becomes a handyman at a local apartment building. After twenty-seven days of this unfair lightning bolt abuse I was, by then, in Syria a bit North of the Sea of Galilee. While many of us don’t need an excuse to tuck into some serious lady-loving media, Pride Month is a great time to dig into some of the best lesbian moments on film and truly celebrate women who love women.As a friendly neighbor welcoming dark-complexion Jordan Bliss who's just moved into the neighborhood a week ago with her (unseen) mom, I would guess her unsubtle lesbian advances would be easy to resist. One of those really great movies that passed you by if you weren’t paying attention, Disobedience isn’t your typical lesbian drama, most notably because it follows the lives of people within the Orthodox Jewish community. Natasha Lyonne plays high school cheerleader Megan Bloomfield, a lesbian whose parents send her to a conversion therapy program that doesn’t work.
A girl is being flirty if she makes intense eye contact with you, like she's trying to spell the alphabet with her eyes, and she touches your knee. If that isn’t enough of a pull on its own, you should also know that the cast includes the great Dan Levy, Mary Steenburgen, Aubrey Plaza, Alison Brie… the list goes on and on. So it’s just as tragic watching somebody be prisoner to their own trauma, not in control of what they’re doing because their perspective is so skewed. The good thing is that given that the movie was written and directed by a woman, it never seems provactive and instead feels incredibly authentic (and yes, hot). Moving past Isabelle she inhaled the scent of her fresh skin and hair, sending shivers down her spine.
Ultimately, Eva runs away to live with Laura in her home—and when the relationship goes south, Laura winds up holding the teen hostage. Because even if they've spent their whole life dating people of the opposite gender, you might be that person to bring it all to the other side. Things start to go off the rails, though, when Laura begins cleaning the house of of 16-year-old Eva (Julia Sarah Stone) and takes too much of a liking to the teen. Oddest touch for me occurred with the first of four unrelated vignettes: shot entirely in a nondescript bedroom with ugly lime green walls and barely any decoration: if given a "blindfold test" (no advance info or credits) I would have attributed the footage to competitor Girlfriends Films, where setting is often generic. Once we were ready to come out to ourselves and everyone else, many of us were already in our early twenties, far beyond the sloppy teenage years, with no experience navigating girl-on-girl sexual tension.
It was way smaller but it seemed much more homely and it was never this quiet, whether due to the noise of her neighbors or the traffic outside. If you're enjoying a drink with a girl, the conversation is flowing, you're laughing and you feel chemistry with her, why not ask her if you can kiss her, or ask her to come back to your place.Before long, Laura becomes Eva's go-to shoulder to cry on, and their connection slowly deepens, becomingly increasingly inappropriate and unsettling. There’s just one problem: Harper’s parents think she’s super straight and they’re desperate to set her up with her high school boyfriend again. New(ish) movie Ammonite has everything: moody beach scenes, lots of fossils, Saoirse Ronan sitting on Kate Winslet’s face… To be clear, you’ll have to sit through roughly 3/4 of the movie before you get to that last part, which is not only pretty explicit but also meticulously planned out by the actresses themselves and filmed on Ronan’s birthday as a “gift” of sorts.
Every coming out process is different, but for many of my sexually-fluid female friends and I, unwinding the internalised biphobia that told us there was nothing gay about wanting to kiss our school friend's cheek and stroke her hair while we talked about boys was a confusing process. This part of his plan works, but unfortunately for the Count, things go downhill from there as Hideko and Sook-hee turn the tables in multiple ways. Abuse is a well-rounded tragedy for everyone, because normally, when people are doing that, it’s because they’ve been broken at a very young age.
