About this deal

A guide hole should be drilled into the concrete, brick, plasterboard or other surface first, which should allow the wall plug to be pushed in with a snug fit. These are designed with a serrated anti-rotation lock to prevent movement in drill holes and provide extremely high installation safety. I've screwed a hole for the rawl plug for the hook to screw into, but can't drill all the way into the ceiling as about halfway I hit something too hard for the drill to go through (using a masonry drill bit) and I didn't want to push too hard in case it drills through something it really shouldn't. The window frame is relatively new but I can't see anything that would prevent the holes being drilled to the correct length. Some professionals push the strip fully into the hole, and holding the plug with their thumb against the wall, marking the length, then withdraw a few millimetres, mark and cut to the mark and push the plug back into the wall.

Try screwing the hook through the hole and into the obstruction (by hand) - if the obstruction is a joist, you'll feel it bite in pretty easily, whereas if it's a metal pipe you'll get nowhere, but won't cause any damage. Check for hidden pipes and cables using a detector, and if the location is safe mark the wall using pencil.I think the plaster the plug is in is a little crumbly and the hole is perhaps a touch too big for the plug to fill completely (it's almost there but there's a little play). These Cut to length plastic wall plug strips sometimes referred to as cut to size are ideal for general purpose tasks provided the correct drill size is used with a suitable screw. A 12 inch trade plug strip that allows you to cut the required amount of wall plug to length for the required application.
