What it essentially boils down to is that the makers of Retron 5 have been accused of thieving code created by others in direct violation of the its license and without seeking the permission of its creators. With no solid release date they said it’ll be out in April. Sure they have shown the console in action at conventions or through social media with photos and videos but I think a company that’s hesitant to engage properly with a base of of people who are interested is leaving a lot of people to feel frustrated and dejected. The RetroN 5 has reignited my passion for retro gaming but there are still too many issues at hand I had with this unit, which are deal breakers if someone has to pay the full retail price. You can’t start the machine up with the controller, and there is no battery meter on the RetroN 5 system to give you an accurate reading of how much power the controller has. The audio sound of things are pretty good as most of the games sounded like how I remembered on the original consoles. There are options for audio enhancement, with audio interpolation and also a bass and treble boost. But I found that the latter options really muffled the audio up on a few of the games I played and I left them switched off.

We obviously weren’t in a position to test absolutely every single NES, SNES, Mega Drive and Game Boy game ever released, but we tried enough to ascertain that it’s a pretty solid system when it comes to running vintage games properly. From the looks of the machine it looks all right, but I think the shiny plastic gives the machine a cheap feel and look to it, which you wouldn’t expect from the price of it.
