Course - Navigation (1 day)

What

This is a hands on course. The instructors will explain and demonstrate but you will get the opportunity to pratice the skills that you are taught.

 

You will cover the folllowing:

  • Reading a map (including map scales, map symbols, rights of way, footpaths and access land, understanding contours, grid references and the three norths).
  • Using a compass
  • Taking grid bearings
  • Natural ways to find direction
  • Pace counting and distance measuring

 

Once you have been shown the key skills we will put the skills in to practice with the compass, taking bearings on the map and following them on the ground and point-to-point navigation.

The day course starts at 9:30am and finishes at about 5pm.

 

Who

Suitable for beginners, or those with some experience who want further practice. It is suitable for young children accompanied by their parents.

 

There is a maximum of 4 people on this course.

 

Where

In beautiful woodland in the heart of Sussex. Located near Pulborough it is just over one hour from London.

After you learn the basics we will travel up onto the South Downs where you will put your new found skills to the test
