Course - Firelighting (1 day)

What

This is a hands on course. The instructors will explain and demonstrate but you will get the opportunity to have a go at everything!

 

You will cover the folllowing:

  • Basic principles of firelighting, siting, laying, safety (extinguishing and removing traces)
  • Choosing the right natural materials (the best woods, bark, fungi and grasses)
  • Preparing the tinders so that they light quickly
  • Six ways of making a fire
    • Chemical
    • Friction
    • Electric
    • Sparks
    • Sunlight
    • Compression

 

It is a practical course with some demonstration but lots of practice. You will get to make several fires using these skills, including making feather sticks using bow drills.

The day course starts at 9:30am and finishes at about 5pm.

 

Who

Suitable for beginners, or those with some experience who want further practice. It is suitable for young children accompanied by their parents.

 

There is a maximum of 8 people on this course.

The cost of the course is £70 for the day.
